Today’s review is about a product which has a historic significance which many of us are unaware of. Everyone must have heard of CHIK Shampoo at some point in their lives but not everyone knows about ‘CHIK Shampoo Revolution of India’ by the house of Cavincare. It is also called ‘Sachet Revolution’, brought about by its founder Mr. C K Ranganathan in Indian market at the time when per capita income of India was low. Envisioning the thought that Late Mr. Cinni Krishnan (his father) passed onto him ‘Whatever the rich man enjoys, the poor man should also be able to afford’, he started his company with this Iconic Brand and a net sum of Rs 15000. Late Mr. Chinni Krishnan was known to pack talcum powder in 20g, 50g and 100g packs when it was sold in large tin containers.

Today Chick shampoo is India’s third largest selling shampoo whose big leap was to start selling shampoo sachets at 50paise aimed at hitting the jackpot at the bottom of the Pyramid.

My Experience:

This shampoo comes in a off-white Egg Shaped Oval Cute Bottle that bears a flip-cap on its head. Bottle is so cute it heightened my creative flight and I was down with a dozen of eggs and a Camera to find the shoot location! Open the cap and find whitish-clear thick liquid with a pleasing floral scent (and not of egg yellow). Fragrance lingers on for about 4-6hrs after every wash.

After using it for two weeks, I noticed my hair to be quiet shiny and they had a much smoothed feel right from the first time. Most desirable effect for me was ‘Fluff’ or ‘Bounciness’ that it gave to my hair. During the wash, only 2 hair fell down the drain compared to usual 6-7 for me (lol…).

I don’t have very oily hair naturally and so can’t comment about its role in controlling oil secretion though it removed dirt very effectively even in scanty usage. If you have oily hair, bounciness and volume will come handy with this shampoo. Only that it needs to be used more frequently for oily hairs (like once in 2 days as I noticed on my Sister who has oily hair). As for me (having mixed sort of hair), I used it in once in every 3-4 days and the effect stayed well.

Ingredients mentioned show quiet a lot of chemicals and so the shampoo is not ‘Natural’, something contrary to what I thought it was –going by its name. Ingredients list also shows hydrolysed egg white protein and so I researched a bit about hydrolysis. “Hydrolysis” is a process of breaking the structure of proteins into simpler forms called amino-acids which then become easier to be absorbed into the system/ hair.

Pros and Cons:

PROS:

  1. Instant great results.
  2. Lovely Fragrance.
  3. Very Pocket Friendly prices.
  4. Lesser hair fall noted.
  5. Very small and fairly leak proof Travel Friendly design of an egg.
  6. Benefits of Eggs when you are short of time and can’t do a hair Egg-wash at home.
  7. Makes hair thicker with time as it reduces hair-fall.
  8. Good Shelf life- 2yrs.

CONS:

  1. May cause allergy to those allergic to Eggs. So always do the patch test.
  2.  Chemical ingredients present. Not entirely natural.
  3. Some people say it makes their hair dry. For people with such tendencies- I would recommend using this in smaller amounts as it will still be effective but would help avoid dryness of hair.
  4. Not easily available online and offline. (A Tip: Look out for Local South Indian Shops nearby for this product. They usually stock it. Maybe it’s quiet famous there.) Online shops run out of stock quiet fast.

My Verdict:

This is a very pocket-friendly protein shampoo and one of the best in this price range in Indian Market.

It didn’t irritate my scalp and the Desirable effects- smoothness, shine and bounce- were INSTANT and great. Overall, I really liked using it but wouldn’t use it for very long periods due to presence of chemicals. I would however, like to use it for instant results though- as for some event or occasion.
